BARKERS & KENT FOLEY POTTERY, FENTON STAFFORDSHIRE, 1898 - 1900 "TYKE" DECORATED TANKARD or MUG
SIZE: The Large Mug measures 120mm Tall, has a Base of 80mm wide and a Top Rim of 125mm wide.
CONDITION: The Mug has a Hairline Crack on the handle and there's Crazing which is to be expected for an item of this age where it was in general use rather than a display item. There are No Further Cracks or Chips.
OTHER INFO: This lovely Character Tankard or Mug is from BARKER & KENT, a Pottery operating at their Fenton Pottery in Staffordshire at the end of the 19th Century.
The Mug features a comic scene with Black Country sayings and slang
On the Front Face there's a scene of a local with a Pint of Ale. He's making a Toast that Reads
"Here's Ta Me Anma Wife's 'Usbean Not Fo'Getting MeSen".
On the Reverse, there's a Comic Coat Of Arms surrounded by what it Claims is the Tyke's Motto
“Here’s Tiv Us, All On Us, Mean All. May We Nivver Want Nowt None On Us, Nor Me Nawther
"See All, Hear All, Say Nowt. Eat All, Sup All, Pay Nowt
And if Tha Does Owt for Nowt Allus Do It For Thisen".
The mock Latin Inscription on the coat of arms reads

The Backstamp has a Globe with Eagles Wings and "TYKE" across the Centre with "TRADE MARK" Above the Mark and ""B & K LTD" beneath it.
